"Act wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Your speech should always be gracious and sprinkled with insight so that you may know how to respond to every person." (Colossians 4:5-6).

Every day we interact with other people, some of whom believe in God  and many of whom do not. We should do our best to treat everyone with respect and dignity, and to listen carefully to their concerns. We do this not only because it is right, but because we are representatives, witnesses, of Jesus Christ. Our service is on behalf of Christ and all that he represents.

Each day, we are presented with countless opportunities to witness to Jesus: through our words and deeds, and in how we live our lives. Our text from Colossians instructs us that our words "should always be gracious and sprinkled with insight." Our witness can take many forms. We may be given the opportunity to fell someone about Christ, to discuss with them our faith. We might simply share some knowledge we have gained along life's way in a kind and helpful manner. Most often, though, our witness is based on what we do (or don't do).

Every interaction is an opportunity to provide a glimpse of God's grace. Be a witness.

Prayer: God, give me wisdom. Help me know how to speak to others, within and outside the family of faith. Help me to show your wisdom and love through gracious speech and insightful words. By your grace, may my words and actions lead others to you. In Christ's name. Amen.
