Yesterday's meditation examined our thoughts and beliefs about wealth and challenged us to think differently about it. Today we look at security. What does it mean to you to be "secure?" If we think about financial security we might think about investments. Other thoughts that come to mind: a house that is paid for, safety in that home or in a neighborhood, family or friends to lean upon in times of trouble. The verses today speak of God as our only true security. As you read the verses, what do you think the writer is telling us about God?

My child, do not let these escape from your sight: keep sound wisdom and prudence, and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck. Then you will walk on your way securely and your foot will not stumble. If you sit down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden panic, or of the storm that strikes the wicked; for the Lord will be your confidence .. Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it”—when you have it with you. Do not plan harm against your neighbor who lives trustingly beside you. Do not quarrel with anyone without cause, when no harm has been done to you. Do not envy the violent and do not choose any of their ways; for the perverse are an abomination to the Lord, but the upright are in his confidence. The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the abode of the righteous. Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he shows favor. The wise will inherit honor, but stubborn fools, disgrace.  (Prov. 3:21-35)

When we walk wisely with God, we walk securely and have no reason to be afraid. How do we walk wisely? We are given several examples in these verses. Our walk begins with wisdom - seeking, and following, God's direction for our lives. What does that walk look like? Helping those in need as we are able, causing no harm to others, being humble and confident in God. Kind of like the three simple rules of Methodism: do good, do no harm, stay in love with God.

Prayer suggestion: When you pray today, ask God to help you walk wisely. Pray that God help you walk securely with him and that God's presence with you keep you unafraid. Pray that God lead you in helping others, in doing no harm, and in staying in love with God.
