Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud,
    be gracious to me and answer me!
‘Come,’ my heart says, ‘seek his face!’
    Your face, Lord, do I seek.
Do not hide your face from me.
Do not cast me off, do not forsake me,
    O God of my salvation!
Teach me your way, O Lord,
    and lead me on a level path.
I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord
    in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord;
    be strong, and let your heart take courage;
    wait for the Lord!
(From Ps. 27)

Have you ever asked the question, “If God is with me, why is this happening?” Gideon, one of the judges (Judges 6:11-24), asked this question. His country was attacked by neighboring enemies and in fear for their lives. Gideon questioned why God had seemingly abandoned them. God's answer to Gideon was, "I will be with you" ... and I will give you the power to vanquish your enemies.
Today you may be facing challenges in your own life. You may question why God is allowing these troubles. Take comfort in knowing that God is with through it all and will give you strength. Claim these words from today’s Psalm and make them your mantra: “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage….” (Psalm 27:14).

Prayer:
Gracious God, help me to remember that you are with me and never hide your face from me, no matter what happens in my life. Help me to share my fears and my pain with you and to find in your love the strength I am lacking. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
