If you have been "along for the ride" as we have been reading the psalms, today we hit a milestone - Ps. 100 and we are 2/3 of the way through the Psalms. Today's psalm is a simple hymn of praise celebrating the goodness of God.

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; enter into his presence with singing. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name. For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
(Ps. 100)

This psalmist gives praise to God for creating him, claiming him as one of God's own, for loving him, and for God's faithfulness throughout history. If you were writing a simple hymn of praise to God what would you include in the hymn? I encourage you to spend a few minutes today simply reflecting on all that you have received from God and all of the things for which you have reason to be grateful. Right now, for example, as the skies look a bit gray, I am sitting in a comfortable chair with my Bible beside me typing on my computer with a coffee beside me and a dog draped over my legs snoring. God is good!

Prayer: God, thank you that your steadfast love endures forever. Thank you that your love for us did not end at creation, but will continue for all time. When we get busy and forget you, you do not forget us. When we get discouraged and all we can see are the negatives, you are faithful to your promise that all things will work together for good for those who know you. Thank you that as great and powerful as you are, you call us to be your people. We worship you with gladness and bless your holy name. Amen.
